Because a wiki is such an open online environment, some rules or guidelines are needed to keep things organised and pleasant for everyone.

The BPMA Wiki is an experiment. We can't think of every possible situation which might need a guideline at the outset. These guidelines will evolve with experience.

The golden rules

The 'golden rules' are the most important guidelines we have. If a wiki user does not abide by these rules the BPMA will take action to remove all inappropriate content. If these rules are consistently ignored, the BPMA will take action to bar a non-cooperative user.

  • This wiki was created by The British Postal Museum & Archive, so all subject matter on this wiki must be 'postal' in some way.

  • No obscene or derogatory content is allowed.

  • Respect other wiki users and value their work. Do not vandalise or steal content.

The golden rules are included in the following guidelines, with further detail. We welcome your contribution to these guidelines. A wiki is developed by a community of users and over time preferred practices will develop. The BPMA reserves the right to arbitrate on BPMA Wiki preferred practice.

Guidelines for content

  1. This wiki was created by The British Postal Museum & Archive, so all subject matter on this wiki must be 'postal' in some way.
  2. All users should share in the effort to keep this wiki free from obscenity and defamatory content. All users should remove obvious vandalism where it is found.
  3. The BPMA Wiki may not be used for advertising for commerical purposes.
  4. Relevant cultural organisations may post information about themselves and their activities. However, this content is subject to the requirement to be 'postal'.
  5. Please reference any source quoted or used. Where possible provide a link to further online information. The BPMA has created this wiki in the spirit of increasing public knowledge about the history of the British postal service. However, the BPMA cannot guarantee that the BPMA Wiki content is accurate or useful. See the Disclaimer below.
  6. All users must ensure that the information they contribute to the BPMA Wiki is freely given and can be used by other people without breach of copyright. If you are in doubt, do not add content.
