Overview

These six cards were designed to accompany the exhibition Last Post: Remembering the First World War. The exhibition explores the vital role played by the Post Office during the First World War and the postcards illustrate key stories including the recruitment of Post Office workers to the its own battalion, The Post Office Rifles, and the role of women during this period.

The postcards are:

• Women mending parcels, First World War c1916,
• First World War letter passed by censor on ship,
• First World War recruitment poster for the Post Office Rifles,
• Sorting of mail by the Army Post Office, First World War c1916,
• Medals including a Victoria Cross awarded to Sergeant Knight of the Post Office Rifles,
• Embroidered card from First World War
